Heliconia indica var Rubra
Grown for it's Foliage Collector's Plant
First off let me say that this is a verty picky heliconia, I wouldn't bother trying below Airlie Beach. It's an ultratropical so if it dies, you can't say I didn't warn you.
However, it is a bucket list heliconia for collectors. We only have 4 small potted ones in stock.
Heliconia indica 'Rubra' key features:
-
Appearance: It has large, lance-shaped leaves with burgundy undersides and red stems, making it a standout in any tropical garden.
-
Height: This plant typically grows to a height of 2.5–3.5 meters, forming dense, bushy clumps.
-
Growing Conditions: It thrives in partial to full shade and prefers well-drained, nutrient-rich soil with high organic content. It performs best in warm, humid climates and is sensitive to frost.
-
Uses: Ideal for adding height, texture, and dramatic color contrast to shaded garden beds, borders, or large containers.
